Not Many Stranger Stories

I started this month thinking I would have a good supply of stories about strangers, but it didn’t really go that way.  In the last week, I’ve seen even fewer strangers than usual, because my car has been in the shop and I’ve been catching rides with my dad, who works close to where I work.

So, thinking of the strangers I’ve interacted with lately. . . today, a woman made me chuckle by showing me a package of gummy bugs in the Easter candy aisle, when Dad stopped at the drug store for me so I could pick up a few things.  There were lady bugs.  They were pretty.

I once met a stranger in that same store, a few years ago, who had an adorable puppy in her purse.  The puppy’s name was Olive.  I remember that because my grandma was named Olive.

When I was two years old, I couldn’t say “olive”.  I said “awful”.  My mom was scared I would start telling people my grandma was awful.

Another time, about five years ago, I was in that same store, and I found a dragonfly on the floor.  It was still alive, but it couldn’t fly.  I was on the phone with Sister and she said it was probably because the air conditioning made it too cold.  I went to the pharmacy and they gave me one of those waxy paper bags, and I used it to scoop the dragonfly up and carry it outside where it was warm.  It flew away almost immediately.

So, there you have it.  A sample of how my mind can wander all over the place, yet all the thoughts are somewhat linked, and I wound up talking about bugs, which is what I started out with.

I apologize.  I’m beyond overtired right now.  Going to go to bed soon and recharge.

Goodnight.

My grandma really was awful; we should have traded places.
